What do you do for a living ?

Hi All,


I have been a member on this forum now for quite a number of weeks, and in this time I have seen some excellent work, I have recieved many hints and tips from many of you and I have enjoyed reading all these posts on a daily basis. I have just been thinking about how we rely on each other for help, yet we all know little about each other. I was wondering what you all do for a profession or is pro-e a hobby etc ?


Ill start. I work in the technical department for a hardware company that develops mainly for the window and door industry`s in the UK. Designing anything from window handles, door handles to quite complicated door locks, mortice locks etc. We also deal in anything else that our MD thinks will make him a few quid hehe, so I have designed gardening equiptment, sony tv stands, occasional automotive parts etc aswell as shop fittings and furniture parts. So as you can see my job is never too boring hehe

Development Engineer is my main title, but I also act as customer help line, product query`s, I produce all in-house marketting literature etc, so my fingers are in all pies.


Pro-e is my new toy to play with and I am enjoying learning it ( most of the time ).. sometimes it is too frustrating.


Anyway, that enough about me... what do you lot do ?

I'm a MechanicalEngineerdesigning and developingmedical implants, specifically for the cervical spine. We use Pro/E to design the implants themselves as well as the instruments the surgeons use and the cases they'restored and sterilized in.

burnsp, that sounds very interesting. Are these implants specific sizes per patient or "off the shelf sizes " so to speak ?

I'm a mechanical engineer designing automotive components, primarily fuel injectors. I've worked for English, French & American companies. I've been using Pro/E since 1989.

We offer some "patient specific implants" but the majority are offered "off the shelf" inmany sizes...sometimes as many as 30 different sizes, depending on the implant and indication. Therefore, we useFamily Tables quite a bit.

I'm a mechanical engineer currently working for a company that makes kitchen cabinet organizational products (pull out baskets, lazy susans, etc)........Interesting work....Been using Pro/E for about 4 months now......talk about a steep learning curve!

I am your basic, run of the mill designer from the US. I work for a company that mainly deals with military vehicles. Boring in my opinion which is the reason I have other plans for myself.

I am a system administrator for Pro/E and PDMLink.


Started using CAD in the late 70's with Applicon 3D at school. My degree is in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Didn't get into CAD full time until 1987 with Unigraphics and then added Pro/E in 2000. I have done design/drating work, NC programming, GRIP programming and system administration. Products have included military radar units, automotive airbags, road construction equipment and aircraft mods.

Few words about me - for about three years I was a design engineer,
from about 6 months I am a specialist\supporter person of Pro\e
and try to help other designers to deal with Pro\E what is not so easy.
I work in automotive firm.



My experience with Pro\E started when I was studied and from this moment it is about 5 years

I started with Pro/E 2000i2, then 2001, Wildfire, and now I use WF 2.0


I have worked on almost all modules (sheetmetal, MDO, animation, Mechanica,cabling, piping with ISOGEN, mould design with and without EMX, BMX, EFX and PDX besides the basic modules of Pro/Engineer) of Pro/Engineer. Not only I use Pro/E in my projects (Automotive Industry) but I teach ProE as well.


I work in automotive firm for the last 6 years.Salary-wise I am satisfied with my job but interest-wise I am not. I wish I solve more challenging jobs than I do in my office.

I am a civil eng who finds myself designing injection molded parts with pro-e. Yikes!
My real work is laser scanning and modelling of civil structures.

i am a mech. engg. working in a automobile industry for last 2 years. i am using pro/e for last 4 years. it is very nice to see all the pro/e friends and the experience. thanks to SKINT.

Skint i do rendering in my free time i dont get enough time to model a complex thing and render it as i dont have a PC at home what ever i do i do it in my free time at office but still i love doing this rendering work i just go for simple models and render them

I am a system administrator and drafter-modeler for Pro/E and Pro/I.


Startedin CAD with TechSurf and TechMill (Norsk Data - a dead company) in 1989 and Cadds in 1990 to make die part (modeling and NC programming) for a forging company.


Solidworks in 1999 and Pro/E in 2000 to make the model, draft and user's manual for our road marking machine.


In parallel with this company, I work for my personnal company. Making 3D, draft, NC programm, user's manual for any parts and any compagnies.

I have designed similar products to those aswell. I have done some designs for a global company called Hafele, and also Hettich... you may of heard of these ?


The company I work for now also designs things for the kitchen and furniture industrys. Small world hey ?

im a mech. engg working in electricalindustry as a design engg.i am working on pro/e wildfire for last 6 months, we manufacture a (pole line hardware,aerial bunch cable accessories,electrical connectors for over head electrical lines)
