Use existing part to make a cut

Is there a way to use an existing part to make acut in another part? Basically I want tomake a fill around existing parts in an assembly, how do I do this easily?

Is your first sentence related to the second sentence? As per the first one, it seems you would like to remove material from a part using another part as a reference.

But as per the second line, it seems that you would like to fill the space between different parts in an assembly.

For the first part Tobbo has repplied appropriately. However, the secondrequirement is entirely different from the first one. There is no "easy" way to do this. You have to insert the external surfaces of all the parts which would form the boundary of the new part as external references from the assembly and then you have to solidify to get the actual part. Mind you, this is a laborious process.

Yepp, my reply was about the "first" question.

I think thatmore info on what you want to do would be nice... Do you have an .asm and wants a new part that covers all the parts? (without the space for the existing parts offcourse?) Like a mold form , or a plastic cover?

Or what do you mean by "fill"? is it like anand says? the space between the parts?

Yes, I am basically molding around an assembly of multiple parts. Picture a PCB with a lot of components, then dispensing epoxy over it. I want to draw the epoxy. I am doing predictivemodeling on this, so I need it to be bonded around all parts, not occupying the same space. Hope this makes sense.

So even though my two questions seem different, they were mythoughts of ways to do the same thing. One way would be to make a new part with cuts corresponding to my individual parts, then assemble it (which would then 'fill' around the parts I used to cut). My second thought was to do this in an assembly and somehow 'fill' around all the parts already assembled. I didn't know how to do either.

I used the 'cut-out' function for this (assemble them, then 'component operations' then 'cut-out'), and this worked how I needed. Thanks for the replies.
