Although quite some companies still use the "american" projection. Also among architects it ismore common to use 3rd angle. Once your brains have the habit of looking at one standard it's very hard to switch. This made me having to think hardon every drawing in my previous job.
We normally use 3rd angle except when a European customer requests 1st angle. My brain has no problem working either way, i spent a lot of years working for a French company.
I am more comfortable with the THIRD Angle. It is strange that in
India, the Engineering Curiculam is taught in First Angle and the
Industry follows Third Angle. However Tool Designers follow the First
Angle.
Having worked on Third angle for almost 22 yrs, my present company
uses First Angle. I find it difficult to ORIENT my brain.
I wonder when we would have ONE UNIFIED Engineering Language
including UNITS OF MEASUREMENT all over the world.
My American friends...any possibility of changing over to Metric
system?

USA has been officially converting to metric since for the last 32 years, we're just not done yet!
On 23 December 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed the Metric Conversion Act of 1975,
which finally gave official federal sanction for the U.S. to convert to
using the metric system. However, the 10-year deadline (for
conversion), which was in the original bill that was ready for the U.S.
Congress to vote on, was somehow dropped from the final version of the
bill. So no deadline was set for making the U.S. transition to metric
system usage.
