subtract one solid from another

I'm using wildfire 2. I'm trying to useINSERT/SHARED DATA/CUTOUT FROM OTHER MODEL, to subtract one solid model from another. When it prompts me for the reference (cutout)model, that model opens in another window. This makes it difficult to position the two together. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

p.s. is it possible to do a cutout from an assembly?

In 2001 you can do the cutout in assy. mode (in prevous versions that was the only way to do it). You should be able to do it in WF as well.

Edit--->Component Operations---->Cut Out

Follow the bottom line instructions. There is no change in Cut Out operation in 2001 and Wildfire or WF 2.0
