does the student version spit out stl & iges files that can be read by sla machines and the like ie" rapid prototype" if so why dont we all switch to the SE atleast then i could copy geometry from another model

Well, for one thing, when you get the student edition you agree that it will not be used for commercial purposes. So when the software police come around to check your corporate software licenses you will be up for some hefty fines if you are using SE.

I believe the SE version makes perfectly good STL & IGES files. STEP too.

I do not think the Student edition does any exporting... you can make drawing with it, but it will leave a wet mark on the paper that says student edition all over the paper... Anything you create in a full license can be opened in a student version, but it does not work the other way around..
