I am reverse engineering a fairly simple stamping. I started modeling it as a solid and then converted it to sheetmetal. While playing around with the part with model player, I noticed that single surfaces become multiple surfaces and some parallel edges in the solid get distorted when the part is converted to sheetmetal. Has anyone ever noticed this before?
Uh, huh. Material 'side surfs' are altered when the
conversion is done. I don't notice it as I usually create
sheetmetal parts as surfaces then thicken. The 'conversion'
treatment is, essentially, the same as what happens when

Thanks Jeff, the "distortion" is really evident in your part & I see why it is happening.
Why did you spend all that time making 10 features to get to your solidify when you could get exactly the same thing with one solid blend feature? I can see having the offset DTM1 for later reference but all those surfaces?

Unless I'm cultivating cubes I tend to think wireframes and faces.
I started into that as I'd normally do it (open "U" sections, Boundary
Blend, Thicken) and made up the rest (planar end faces for the sake of
demonstration) as I went along. And, to tell the truth, I use Insert ->
Blend so infrequently I forget it's there. After I saw the pre-Shell
block I thought; oh, yeah ... (and I opted not to use the Shell type
sheetmetal conversion because it made a less 'graphic' demonstration).
