Section solve failed

Some references for a feature got blown up so I went into redefine. The feature is mirrored so I can't add or delete references. I attempted to Replace, but the result was this message. Replacing is now no longer an option. Until the failures are resolved I can't exit Sketcher or even close the References dialog box. The only thing that has worked in past situations is completely exit out of the pro/e session. Anybody else seen this? Its kind a big dead end.

I sent in a call to PTC last year in WF 4.0 and they said they would fix it. They did part way. In WF 4.0 after this message came up, I couldn't add, replace or delete. Now in WF 5.0, when I've seen it, if I delete all the references, it lets me proceed. However, in this case with a downstream mirrored feature dependent, there's no readily apparent way to proceed.

I may have a solution..... Have you ever tried to copy, paste special...independant...advanced ref control and change the references to have the model look mirrored?

I usually try to do everything I can to avoid mirroring features. My favorite is copy surfaces, Mirror, and Solidify. I"ll take a look at advanced ref control & clean up the model best I can. I was kind of hoping to find a way to get out of Sketcher first, but it looks like I'll have to terminate the session.

Well one thing you can do is to stop using the extrude as references. What exactly did you mirror...I will help as best i can.

Thanks, I can take care of the references and copies. The failed section is the big problem. There's no way to resolve it. I guess bugs like this are another reason to fail-safe your model as much as possible.

No,I meant what kind of geometry did you mirror (solid, surface, assy, part)....Why did you have to reference a extrusion. I'm not telling you to send me youwork and ill do it, I know better than that, some info is propriatery. I'm trying to keep you from using the copy paste special command. I have used that command when designing crankshaft...It will get you finished , but it suck to get it to work.

Sure a lot of things are bad in pro/e. A lot of things are good also. Some problems you can fix & avoid. Some problems you can't.

I don't think you guys understand the root of my question. Look again at the Topic name. My real problem is the "Section solve failed".

Maybe I can avoid this problem in this particular case with proper restructuring of the reference and feature scheme, maybe not.

But why the hell can't I resolve the reference failures!?!?! I can't even close the reference dialog box. The only thing I can do is exit pro/e. Get it?

In theses situations I've found that using reroute to route the failed ref to something else, anything, will result in a failed feature that I can then redefine and add and remove refs.

Of course, that assumes that you can get out of the refs dialog without exiting Pro|E.

Have you tried activating the window using cntrl-A or the green check button on the toolbar? Sometimes this acts as a 'cancel all' kicking you back to resolve mode. Then you should be able to reroute and fix it up.

This doesn't work either. Green check is greyed out and cntrl A just brings the error message back. The big problem is the 'Section solve failed' seems to occur randomly. There's no indication that it will happen until you go into Sketcher. Otherwise, I'd have rerouted to avoid it like you said.

It's look like even in WF5 you still have to usethe old method of supressing every thing up to that point, so you can redifine and changes refs. And in the other had is just better to start from scratch. All depends, how much time do you have to finish the task?

Luckily, I had time to restructure the model and change the references (no more
mirror).

However, there's only so many datums you can reference before you need to select some geometry. Even without a mirrored feature & completely optimized references, the 'Section solve failed' condition still would have come up & forced me to delete all my references to proceed.

It's hard to remember, but this new error message seems new to WF 4. It really mucks up the works for the worse.
