Region cross section as geometry

I am designing a speaker enclosure and have drawn it as a
single part though it will obviously be made from several
flat sheets of wood. My general question is how best to
create a part for each of the individual sheets. I tried
'publish geometry' and 'copy geometry' but creating the
missing surfaces, merging and solidifying is annoying.

An approach I have used in the past is to instead create
an assembly for each piece (rather than a part). In each
piece assembly I assemble the original part and cut away
whatever doesn't belong to that piece.

My specific question is how do I create cuts without
specifying cross sections? A first level would be a
feature that creates a halfspace cut. Better yet would
be the region type of cross section as a feature rather
than just for visualization. As it is I just create a
cut and specify a big circle to make sure everything on
one side of the sketch plane gets cut away.

I can get done what I want but hope someone can offer
pointers on better techniques. Thanks for any replies.

Cheers,
-kyle
