ProCMM feedback needed

Hi everyone,

I wonder if someone could share his/her experience with the CMM module of ProE.
Pros? Contras? Tips? Anything, really.

We're trying to convert one of our HAAS 3-axis mills into a CMM. We'd be using the Renishaw probing package that HAAS offers. Renishaw also is trying to sell us their software (OMV) to run the whole show, but I rather stay with ProE if possible.

Fire away, thanks

ProCmm outputs a neutral data file using the DMIS 3.0 format. very similar to APT cldata. Renishaw uses specific g-code style subroutines and macros to move the probes installed on milling machines.

A specific post processor will have to be created to convert the DMIS cldata file to the Renishaw language. As for using ProCMM it is very similar to ProNC with the added ablility to use contact point output as well as center of ball, and std tool tip output.

You may find it easier though to use the Renishaw probe in combination with ProNC. Auxilary NC Sequences can be used to add the Probe commands and the GOTO pointsfor theprobe locations. Using a GPOST macro capture the points and output the specific Renishaw codes. This will result in keeping the NC file associated to the model and at the same time use the proventhe Renishaw machine tool probe macros.

Use ProNC instead of the Renishaw software andalso negating the purchase of ProCMM.

If you do decide to use ProCMM then your biggest headache will be converting DMIS 3.0 to G-code.

That makes sense I suppose... is there any samples / tutorials available to get me through this? Thanks in advance

Mark,
Please email me personally when you get some time. 4mrnc[you know what to put here]metalink.net

There is a document:
In process (machine) probing with
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0
Francois Lamy

I have the darn thing printed, but I am unable to find the disk copy at the moment. I will find or somesuch if you can't find it on the net. Should be gpost central or something like that were I got it from. Hard to tell.

Regardless, it covers doing what you want to do WITHOUT the need for some complicated DIMS "stuff:)". Make no mistake you will need to do some work in GPOST to bring this to life. However, I remember thinking this don't sound "that" bad to implement when I read the document. FWIW, it was at least "print worthy" for me :)

Best regards,
Sean
