Pro/e cam help!!!

omarhernandez

New member
About one year ago we purchased pro cam. Our cam guy couldn't figure out how to do post processor (he took some classes), so he quit. We have since gotten mastercam ($20,000), so the boss doesn't want to hear about pro/e cam. I heared from some forum members that theythink pro cam is better (MR_NC). I would like to learn how to use it. Are there any help files anyone can email me, websites they can recommend, or tips they tell me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Omar,

If you are still on active maintenance with PTC, you can send an email to Francois Lamy ([email protected]) and ask to be added to the manufacturing projectlink page. There are tutorials and exercises/example that can be downloaded to help you learn Pro/NC.

Peter,

Thanks for responding.

I didn't think anyone was going to respond. By the way, we still have maintenance on pro/e, so I will send an email to francois.

Thanks for the tip,

Omar

That being said, you should probably take the milling class. Pro/NC is quite complex and you would benefit from a more intensive training than a few tutorials.

My boss doesn't want to hear anything to do with pro cam. You see, we had a cam guy who didn't learn the post processor part after taking some courses, so he quit. My boss has since bough mastercam and spent about 30,000 dollars (including training). So if he even hear the word Pro/NC....

Why are you interested in learning Pro/NC if your boss is so against it? Post writing is not a easy task to learn. Most people have a post written to avoid this, their time is better spent learning the software and creating start parts etc. Pro/NC is and can be a very powerful software especially if you are designing parts in Pro. We all would be glad to help but I can't help but wonder if you are fighting a battle that can't be won.

Firewild,

The reason I want to learn pro?nc is fro myself. I design machine parts (forging) to machine assemblies, mechanism. I very much into pro engineer, but I think it's is better for me to make toolpath, ect. on pro/e. I'd rather work on the actual part from the software that actually made it, not just import it from an iges file with no featrures, but one that says (import). I'm not asking you to sit next to me and teach me how to use nc, but I am asking to recommend me some links, help files ect.

If you are going to stay with ProNC you will need post processors in GPOST.

I would suggest you contact WWW.AUSTINNC.COM and purchase 2 manuals, GPOST and FIL.

They have a support (maintenance) program, but if your boss doesn't want you to use ProNC he probably will not spend the money for AustinNC support. The cost is $3000 for a standalone GPOST license + $720 per year maintenance. The standalone GPOST license would allow you to run GPOST and build/edit post processor files "offline" The maintenance allows you access to their post library and post problem support. Their support in EXCELLANT. You must purchase GPOST to be eligible to purchase maintenaqnce.

Donald,

I have a book that a former employee left after quiting. He took a post processing class. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm trying to get familiar with pro nc so that my boss will see benifit to it and choose pro nc instead of wasting more money on Mastercam. Thanks once again!

Don, are the manuals you mentioned the same ones located in C:\PTC\proeWildfire30\i486_nt\gpost? There are 2 PDFs there, one for GPOST and the other for FIL, that I refer to on an on-and-off basis.

mediumsliced,

Not having looked at the .PDF files I cannot say they are the ones, although it sounds like it. However you CANNOT print the .PDF files, which is a pain in the ass, unless you screen print one page at a time. This makes it difficult at best.

Uhmmmm... why can't you print PDF's?
File->Print->Print Range: All.....

Mark, the PDF files are password protected, printing isn't allowed.

Don, there are ways to get around the PDF password protection.

Show me. I think Austinnc would rather sell the manuals to help support the making and printing of them, understandably. There are times I would like to print sections.
