Patterening a hole on a curved surface?

Hi,
I have a part that I am making it is essentially a curved surface created using a boundary blend. The problem is when I select the hole tool it will not give me the option to place the hole on the curved surface. Is there a reason or a workaround that I can do to make a hole on the curved surface and pattern it? Any help would be great.
