Sorry my description probably isn't accurate enough, when creating an extruded cut or protrusion you can offset the sketch to start the feature from that plane. If I do this I can't get the dimension into the drawing,
A work round is to create a plane and do the sketch on there and then import the dimension from this but I wanted to be neat and keep the feature count down.
You can create a sketch with lines to control start and end of each feature then you'd have one sketch to control Start points or Direction 1 Direction2 values.
