Normal to view

Ive been using ProE for a few years now and am just
starting to use Solidworks for a new project my company is
starting. Ive been picking it up pretty easy but there is
just one thing that is bugging me which i cant seem to
figure out. In ProE when you start a sketch the model
automatically rotates so that you're sketching on the
surface or plane your selected. But in solidworks it'll
only seem to do this if it is the very first sketch in the
part, otherwise I have to click the "Normal to" icon. Is
there any systems option to force to the normal to view for
every sketch? thanks

Answer is No...

but you can try this...
before selecting any plane or face for sketching, first
select sketch icon, it will ask to select a plane of face,
select anyone, it will automatically becomes normal to your
screen.

Try it out.. Good luck

... or... press "F" key. This switch actual view in a "Normal view" (it is the shortcut for "Normal view" icon).

bryson,

I know, when I started SW after years on ProE, that killed me too. I also hate it when the normal view doesn't have the right top plane I want. To get around this, you can create a macro (mapkey in proe) for creating common 2D views in a model.

Also, you can preselect the face before you hit the normal to key, and when you preselect two perpendicular faces, the first selection is normal to, and the second selection is the top.

Hope this helps,

using the keyboard:

CTRL+8 = normal to plane

ALT +left arrow= rotates model clockwise

ALT +right arrow = rotates model counterclockwise

It is not automatic, but you get used to it after a while.

you can select the plan first before start the sketch,it will automatic change to normal to plane.

"Normal to" is very useful not justwhen creating sketch,<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

The best way i fiendis bymaking the space bar a shortcut, to do
1. Right clickon the toolbar select customize
2. Select
