Need help creating custom drawing formats

Like the subject says, I am looking for some help (in the form of tutorials, books I can go out and buy, etc.) that can explain all the details of making a custom drawing format from scratch.

The reason I'm looking for this info is because I take my work laptop home at night and use Pro/E to work on some of my personal projects. Since I don't want my projects on my company's formats, I would like to create my own custom setup with my own parameters.

I did a search of the forums here and on the PTC knowledgebase, but I can only find bits and pieces of information. Here are the specifics I would like to learn:

1. How to setup BOM tables
2. How to setup the format files
3. How to create drawing template files
4. How to setup custom parameters and settings for the drawings.

If anyone can point me to this type of material I would really appreciate it.

Hi

There are 2 files related to this subject.

1- format_setup_file ( a parameter in config.pro)

2- drawing_setup_file ( another parameter in config.pro)

Thefiles that theparameters above point to, both have an extension like "dtl". Those files brings a centralized control over several users.

But if a user wants to change some settings for a particular format or drawing file he is working on, ProE allows that and you may change any settings without affecting the central dtls and on the other hand have a specific dtlfor thatparticular file.

Once you completed your formatand saved it as let say b_size.frm, you open a new drawing file with format b_size.frm, then go to Application>template and you are in template mode now. Make you settings for drawing dtl file by

1-File>Properties>Drawing Options,

2-Insert a table make it repeat region, adjust the width height etc of it , may be go to the attributes of the repeat region and select No Duplicate optionkind of things depending on your choice.

And save this file as let size b_template.drw

Now when you start a new drawing from scratch select the model you want to detail, and select the template you just saved called b_template.drw

I think this is how the process should be. Open to any comments ormay be corrections

Thanks

Creating draft entities in Proe can be cumbersome (Atleast I find it so). If you have AutoCAD, create in AutoCAD and import in Proe. Create a template with the format and put in the parameters.

I make the format as a part fist. Make the bottom Left hand corner the anchor.

then I make a drawing with the standard drawing format bring the part as a view center the origin to 0,0

save as .dxf then import that into your format.

all this because Draft entities are useless in Pro/E

It's been over 4 years since I have done anything with formats, so please foregive my not remembering how I made these things. I'm using WF2.

My formats are in the folder where I do my design. How do I move them to the "system formats" folder? Neither "folder navigator" nor "system formats" shows up in Windows Explorer. That would be too easy.

Once we get them moved, how do I tell the .drw to look for them. Do I have to mod every .drw I have? Is there a macro that will do it globally?

While I have a lot of Pro/E time,I findconfig.pro to be a real mystery, for the most part. So, please, assume I know very little.
