Merge asm into one part?

Is it possible to merge an assembly into a single part?For example if i have a shaft and a gear modeled seperately but i'd like to merge them into one.

Edit--->component operations---->merge.

Make sure u get it fully constrained. Why not "fix" it?

yeah......i should have but now its too late since there are 642 items to "fix." For future use however should the hidden lines dissapear between the two parts after a merge? Because mine didnt on a test assembly.

If there are no gaps or internal voids there should be no hidden lines after a merge.
