Hi all,

I came across an FEA problem where they defined material orientation. Can any one tell me what does that mean and when do we need to apply that. I could figure out how to apply that. but i dont know why i need to apply that and what is its purpose.

thanks in advance

In some materials, some extruded plastics for example, the material properties are different for each direction. We use titanium for implants and someare machined ina certain orientation to improve the fatigue strength.

ok thats what i understood by the meaning of material orientation.

So will pro/e create material orientation by default for shells and beams.

And is there any restriction that pro/e generates results only in the material orientation direction???????????

i am so confused.

PLease correct me if i am wrong. i am just making assumption

When defining a new material in Mechanica Structure, you can define the properties for each direction, i.e. poissons ratio, youngs modulus, etc. This is done by selecting Orhtotropic in the Material Definition window.
