Man param Vol STEP DEPTH & PROFILE offset

Hi!

I'm machining a mould using 3A Window Rough NC Sequence with a dia 20mm FEM x 40mm length. 3 of the surfaces have a resonable amount of draft on them which means the tool collet does interfere with the part i'm trying to machine. However on one of the draft surfaces the tool collet does interfere with the part to be machined

Is there a manufacturing parameter that i can set/modify that would allow us to specify for example 'for every 10mm Vol Step Depth, Profile stock allowance to increase by 2mm'.
This would allow us to machine a rough stock pyramid using a stubby large dia tool without any tool collet interference.

View attachment 3569

I could then create additional Re-Roughing passes with a longer tool (say 10mm FEM x 75mm) to clean up the volume left on the first pass

Attached manufacturing file of machining problem:

Thanks in advance!

It seems that your holder isn't included in the gauge check...
I can't remember the parameter now, isn't it HOLDER_DIAMETER and HOLDER_LENGTH that need to be included in the model of your tool, otherwise ProNC doesn't take it into account??
I'll try to dig it out, but perhaps in the meantime someone else with better memory than mine can post the correct solution.

As far as Volume param that would let you to "taper" the toolpath, no dice on that as far as I know.

Hi

I am not sure any config option available or not

But I feel sorry when doing the screen play or NC check.

marker, thanksfor the gouge check / holder intereference param setting....i didn't know that such asetting existed...still to activate.,..but a useful tool considering my scenario

...and thanks for your concerns leow...it upsetsme to!

If you want the effect of an increasing profile stock allowance, you can perhaps select the draft surface that is causing the problem as a checksurface and specify a checksurface offset in the ncsequence parameters. This gives the same result as creating an offset surface.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that CHECK SURF's are available in VOLUME Sequence...??
Anyway, that doesn't solve the problem; time to RTFM

I searched in pro-e. but I could not find any config like this

<a name="HOLDER_DIAMETER"></a>Here's the quote from the mighty ProE manual. I hope it helps:
HOLDER_DIAMETER
Along with HOLDER_LENGTH, allows you to use holder
dimensions for automatic gouge avoidance. The default is a dash (-). If
specified, will also be reflected when displaying CL data and when the tool is
displayed in the Preview window of the Tool Setup dialog box. Applicable for
Trajectory, Straight Cut and Isolines Surface milling.

thanks for the above info...well worth implementing

re: the initial collision problem/issue, i think the best way of approaching it is as a rough (then re-rough) nc seq type controlled via mill window with an increasing PROFILE STOCK ALLOWANCE value...

(as i'm sure your all aware)....pro/man knows the stock size and part volume within the stock. When the rough seq is completed pro/man calculates and divides the volume into steps (via STEP DEPTH) and a uniform PROFILE STOCK ALLOWANCE can be set within the nc seq parameters ...........

what would be fantastic (the solution!) is if a 'rule' could be applied to the roughing sequence nc parameters where :
"for every STEP DEPTH or Z rough layer calculated by Pro, add an additional and increasing value to PROFILE STOCK ALLOWANCE"<br style="text-decoration: underline;">
this is pretty hardcore stuff....i imagine that it is possible, but would require some serious ProMan software programming knowledge....if there are any gurus out there that know how to do this i would be eternally grateful if you could let me know......

....and again thanks in advance

Does anyone know how to create there own nc seq manufactruing site parmaters?

eg I've had a look in mfg setup>site>create>mill

It then brings up pro/e's defaults. I would like to then be able to create my own site parameter with a numeric value

thanks in advance

MfgSetup>Param Setup>Site>Modify>modify your params here>Save
Later on, in your new Mfg simply retrieve your saved Site. Don't forget to Activate it.
I hope it helps.
