knurling on a flat surface

Does anyone have a good technique for putting a knurl on a flat surface? It is a simple 45 deg. diamond pattern but I can't seem to get it to stay withing my curve boundry.

In this forum if you go to files>select other models>select 31-60. Its a round diamond pattern but still good example to use.
