How do i make pro.config option permanent

Checkmate

New member
Hi every time i start up proe i go into pro.config and turn off the prehighlight and every time i start up proe it has reverted to its old settings. how do i make it permanent?

Also i would like to be able to put highlight on a mapkey so i can turn it on or off at the touch of a button. how do i do that?

thanks in advance,

Checkmate,

Your personal config.pro file needs to be in the startup directory for the changes to take effect in the next start up. Make a new directory to become your startup directory and place the config.pro, config.win. tree.cfg, and search.pro files in that folder (If you do not have these you can find them in the load point directory for pro-e or just save the changes in your new start up directory). You may decide to add alot more to this folder later like graphics and textures, start parts, custom drawing files etc...

if you have an icon to access pro-e on your desktop, right click and look at properties, in the "start in" directory put the full location of the new directory you made where the config.pro file is. Next time you start pro-e it will look in that directory for the settings and what you have set will take effect. ( FYI: if you have a server admin he will have a higher level config.sup that might overide yours)

as for making the mapkey, that is possible, but I would make a new drop down menu and choose to turn it on and to turn it off in that menu.

hope that is helpful,

Israr,

You are correct, but do you not advocate start up directories? I find that the consolidation of all my data into a directory of my own an effective method for me. Especially, since my companies computer department periodically resets things.

This also allows me to maintain some control since coworkers cannot access my drive when they login.

Just surprised to see that you advocate the default directories.

go with whatever works...

cheers,

Checkmate,

Customizing and control is the purpose for the new directory. If you are the sole user of pro-e on your destop then you can customize the PTC load point files and keep the defaults. For myself, I have alot that I do not share and prefer to have my own setup, even though the desktop machine is open to all. All of my start parts, drawing formats, custom symbols, tutorials and graphic libraries are in that private directory. It also makes it easier for me to transfer just what I need to other machines. I just drop my whole start up directory onto a portable device and upload into the next machine (which might be a customers machine). Perhaps that seems like alot of work, but it is essential in my situation.

One of the things I like about this site is that you can get alternatives, like what Israr proposed, so you can decide for yourself what is best for you.

Cheers...

Don't forget you can use config.sup (still?) to prevent users config.pro from changing settings required for comany standards, etc.

Adding files to your 'Text' directory ensures that all your set-up files get deleted the next time you update your Pro/E datecode.

Keepyour settings files in a folder independent of the installation directory.

One additional comment regarding Magneplanar's start up button on the desktop...

We have default directories for each user and when you start ProE it is configured to always start there first. I have included a screenshot of the Desktop shortcut to show you how it works. The user active at that moment is directed to his own home directory and will get his own personal config and options. Works great !!
