Select and right click, edit attachment. This only happens when the original references no longer exist. Best not to create dimensions in drawings anyway.
If you havecreated dimensions in dwg, the edges or vertices that you have used, when no longer exist (due to modifications in part or assembly), then this message is displayed.
To avoid such a problem: If you have to modify a part, try not to delete and redraw lines in sketcher mode. Just modify the dim if possible.
this was not a question about why it shows up or how to avoid it. It was merely a question on if the program ever bugs out on you and removes the dims rather than highlighting them.
