Groups that contain patterns

tomh

New member
Why is it that I can not create a group that contains 1 or more patterns or a combination of parts and patterns? This is just burning me. Is there another way that this can be accomplished that I'm missing?

Thanks for the help.

Tom,

are you talking about groups of patterned features within a part or
groups of patterned components within an assembly. Or are you trying to
create a group within an assembly that contains both components and
features?

Are you creating the group to add to a family table so you can switch
the whole lot on and off at once or do you want to pattern the group in
a different direction?

What software version have you got and do the patterns result from any particular module.

hehehe...alright. Umm, yes to all the above. Although I don't neccessarilywant/need to add a group to a family table, al least not in thiscase. Besides I know how to add groups to patterns.

I'm running Wildfire 2.0 biuld M070. The type of patterns should not matter (whether their relations or dimensional, etc.).

I have assemblies that contain hundreds of fasteners (patterns of and individuals). I would like to group these patterns and individual fasteners with the components they are constrained to or group the fasteners that are constained to each other. Whatever the case though, apparently patterns can not be grouped together.

Tom,

I expect that you should be seeing the error message "Including pattern
by reference must include its reference" in the message window after
you click done.

You can group dimension patterned components with other consecutive items in an assembly.

You can also group components that are ref patterned to dimension
patterned components in the same level of assembly provided you also
include the original dim pattern.

However, if as I suspect, you are ref patterning bolts to holes in a
plate, I do not think you will be able to achieve this. I have just
tried it in 2000i, 2001 and Wildfire and got the same error message
every time.

I still can't work out WHY you want to group assembly components
though. I regularly create groups in parts so I can turn multiple related features on and
off with fewer family table entries. Only switching off a parent in part
mode causes the part to go into feature fail mode. I can't recall
creating any assembly groups because when you switch off a parent in an
assembly, its children are automatically suppressed hence removing my
requirement to create a group
