Grid referencing

G'day from Perth Aust

I was asked the other day about grid referencing on drawingsand although I have a alfa/numeric grid on all of my formats and reference details to relevent coordinates, I do this manually.

Is there a way of making the grid "inteligent"? By this I mean that if I use a symbol to show grid coordinates eg; D5, if I move the detail to G3 it would be nice if the symbol auto updated to the new coordinate.

This function would be a very handy tool for big drawing sheets with multiple models and detailed views etc, especially when you have to re arrange the views because of drawing changes.

Good day,

If you have access to www.PTC.comfor the Knowledge Database, Search for "location callout" in the detail portion of the Pro/ENGINEER database. This will lead you to a How To document for setting up the drawing format to use for automatically updating notes that relate to grid locations.

Good luck,

Hi all,

I have that location callout referencing working but dont know how to display the grid in my drawing format. Do I have to draw my grid of numbers and letters manually in the frame or is there a way of getting ProE to add that location grid to my drawing format automatically?

I know one can display the location grid using View > Drawing Display > Location Grid but that is not permanent and draws gridlines across the whole page.

I must be missing something obvious here... :p

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Grid references are placed around the drawing sheet when you are designing or building your format. Turn the grid on so you can see where the actual coordinates are, you can modify the grid spacing to suit your needs. Hope this helps.

Hi Max,

Thanks for your reply. So how does one go about adding an alpha-numeric location grid on their drawing formats? Does it have to be manual, or is there an automatic way?

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce

You need to do it manually, just make sure that you set your alphaa/numeric values up on each grid line then turn the grid off.

You can adjust your grid spacing in Pro/E.

Hi Max,

Thanks! Suspected as much but was hoping PTC would have made it easier for users... :p
