Just wondering if anyone out there has used Teamcenter as a PDM system for their Pro-E data. If you have, I sure would like to hear about your impressions/experiences.. Thankshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_Lifecycle_Management

Thanks for the reply Pawan!

Well, our company has started using the Teamcenter software with the 'thin client' interface. It is my understanding that there are threeversions of the software and they are similar, but different. My first question for you is this: 'what version do you use?' We hope to go to the the rich client eventually, but there are issues with the software meshing well with some aspects of ProEngineer. It seems that there are not many people using this combination of softwarepackages. If there is anyone else out there with experience with this, please join in and contribute to our discussion.

Thanks, Bill Daugherty

Hi Bill,

We use teamcenter version 5 i think and it is compatible with Pro-e
Wildfire. You are right there are really few companies that use this
combination. I cant help with the compatibility issues but i can help
you with issue related to operating it.

Thanks

Pawan

Okay, very good Pawan,

Let me just ask this: when you are running Teamcenter do you go through an Internet Explorer interface or do you use the 'classic' version ?? I have not run the classic, but I understand that it is similar to the older versions of Pro-E. The menus are 'pull downs' and the criticism (just like for the older Pro-E) is that you have to know where you are going in the command tree or you are lost! And your page rapidly fills up with menu lists! Ah, the good old days!

The newer and slicker version is much more gui and robust and it is either the 'thin client' or 'rich client'. The rich client is supposed to integrate directly with Pro-E and the two systems work together. Only problem is some sticky points like family table parts and speed. I think it runs just fine if you are a turtle or a snail !! Our guys here are working with the UGS? software people on these issues.

We are currently running in 'thin client' mode. This version is a data manager and we create .pdf versions of drawings and parts lists and they are electonically attached to the data package. The management of our Pro-E files is done the old fashioned way that we have always done it. This is a step in the right direction, but we still are not where we want to be. When we get the bugs worked out, we should have a system that is easy to use, fairly transparent to the user and fully integrated. That is the goal. Sure would welcome any suggestions or help from anyone who has fought these battles already.

Thanks again! Bill Daugherty
