GD&T

I know this is not the forum for it, but does anyone have a firm grasp of GD&T, not just in Pro/E but in life. I understand the principles, it the "when to apply it" that I really don't understand

Well, you need to understand GD&T before you start creating Gtols just for the sake of making Gtols. I recommend you take a class in the subject. I also have a really good self study workbook on GD&T by Alex Krulikowski put out by Effective Training Inc. Don't know if it is still available but I refer to it frequently. It has flow charts for every type of tolerance that makes sure you have defined the Gtol correctly. You would not believe how many times I have seen malformed Gtols which are worse than no Gtol at all.

I am trying not to read condescension in your reply, I really am it's just not working. Okay, work with me, if i understand the principles that proly means, just proly, that i have taken a class or two.

Jelston,

No offense to you, but GD&T is a long-term learning. No one can explain in a few definitions. I suggest you to do this: go to Barnes and Noble or Border and pre-order any GD&T books, you don't pay anything. Once they come in, they call you to come in and check it out. You preview as long as you want (in the store). If you can comprehend the complexity of GD&T on self-pace, buy that book. You can pre-order as many as you want. It's free.

Or

Search in Amazon for GD&T and read the review of the books, take the title to Barnes and Noble and pre-order them.

I took a class but my work doesn't adhere to any standards. So I am falling out by forgetting it. We use very simple GD&T like colinearity and planar stuff.

There're also GD&T in terms of STACKUP ANALYSIS. Search for it Google and you can tons of interpretation.

The current standard is still based on year 1994. The new ASME standard will come out in 2008.

good wild guess,

been there, got the account to show it.

spent more money in the last two months (let me kill you next assumption, NO I HAVE NOT BEEN AT IT FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS) on gd&t than i care to admit.

i guess 'good' is relative because i don't like Krulikowski's book,

actually the best thing i have found for GD&T is a software from INDIA.

BUT, that still doesn't answer my question about concepts that aren't clear in my head.

thought since i spend so much time here with people that are probably familiar, i would ask, my bad.

the gd&t class is not available in my area they suggested i fly to Florida or North Carolina. it's not that deep!

I like you trilli

if you're near Arizona, go to http://www.tdcofarizona.com/

he's the best because his class lasts for 5 days, others may have for 2-3 days.

I met him at the ProE conf. this month in TampaBay. He's terrific. His name is Michael Sandford. He knows ProE so it helps. Other instructors may know different CAD.

If you have already taken two classes and still don't understand it I'll make another assumption that maybe you are in the wrong business?

Seriously, if you have SPECIFIC problems you are going to have to SPELL IT OUT. We can't read your mind.

maybe someanus pretending to be a DR was teaching the class.

But seriously, I don't wanna go back and forth like this.
