Hello friends,

Can any body let me know if we can extract mid surfaces using ProE preferably wildfire2.0.For that matter,a suggetion is needed to do this in UG or Catia.Native model is in UG and a complex model geometry of plastic in nature which to be analysedby our other team. They need mid surfaces of this part. The part is withthickness less than 3 mm and with ribs and suports.

Thanks

Hara

This is one way to do it. There are others including copy and paste. In the original part choose "Insert>Shared Data>Publish Geom. Choose the surfaces you want to share. A Publish Geom feature will be created in your original part.Start a new part and choose "Insert>Shared Data<Copy Geometry from other Model". Choose the Publish Geom feature in the original part. You can choose to make your new Ext Copy Geom feature dependant or independant. The option is at the bottom of the Ext Copy Geom feature.

hi

Before doing what donha said .....you have to create the midsurfaces manually :

Procedure is to use copy sufaces by offsetting them to 1/2 the thickness .

Once this is done u can use "donha"s method to bring these midsurfaces alone

into a new part

Some analysis programs (like MoldFlow) that use midplanes can create them automatically from the solid or surface data and then export them.
