CREO 1.0 Released

yeah, its a step ahead. hasn't used it extensively but in terms the interface, its completely customizable. some of the old menu mangers have been converted to dashboards, like datum curve and helical sweep, finally. there are some new features too. like remove face, draft in extrude feature, and ofcourse, freestyle (SubD) ,Flexible modeling and black edges!
one thing that catches every viewers eyes is these low resolution icons!

Does anyone have the complete new features list available for offline viewing?

Is it available through "order or download software updates" under "Release Wildfire 5.0 & Creo"? I can't find it, I'm stuck with Creo Elements/Pro 5.0, maybe I just have to wait...

Anyway I peeked at the beta version (not so legit source, but curiosity was so high) and I seem to like it, the interface is very flexible, although icons were low res, but I thought that was due to the beta :)

One first gripe, it looks like it's not possible to recall the config.pro editor when you have a part open, I hope this is just the beta, or I was not able to find the button :D

Don't understand the obsession SW folks have with the black model edges. When I first saw that in SW I thought it made the model look like a cartoon and therefore less professional.

That said, I'm glad the option now exists for no other reason than the SW folks will stop asking about it.

This is true, but I was not able to obtain the old style "lighter/darker" edges in Creo beta :/ Also "dark edges" mode seems to highlight all edges, even rounds, but again maybe I had not enough time to play with it... Anyway I hope there's a way to get back to the classic Pro|E edge look.

My understanding is it should be on the dropdown formodel display. It looks like they added two additional options shading with edges and shading with reflections from the videos I've seen. There are a couple on the learning exchange website.

Unfortunately there will be something else found to gripe about.

anyone has access to the online creo help? there's new surface editing tool called "split surface", i have no idea what it is.

Sorry, missed that.

About the Split Surface Region Feature
Use the Split Surface Region feature to split a region of
a surface away from the original surface so you can work
on the split region separately from the rest of the
surface. The surface you split can be solid geometry or a
quilt.
To create a Split Surface Region feature, you select
contours of a single surface. The selected contours are
split away from the original surface, and an identical
copy of these contours is created to form the Split
Surface Region feature. After the split, there are two
surfaces: the original surface containing the contours
that were not selected, and the Split Surface Region
feature containing a copy of the selected contours.

To Split a Surface Region Using Automatic
Selection

1. Click Model ▶ Editing ▶Split Surface. The Split
Surface tab opens.
2. Click to select automatic contour selection.
3. Click the Placement tab, click the Split Surface
collector, and in the graphics window select a solid
surface or quilt to split.
4. Click the Excluded contours collector, and in the
graphics window select contours to exclude from the Split
Surface Region feature.
5. Click the Options tab and select an option:

I like the new interface so far. The low res icons are a
turn off though.

I noticed that when you enter the sketcher within a tool
like extrude, the view doesnt orient normal to the
sketching plane automatically... I wonder if there is some
option that I can change to make that happen.

Hi Folks,

Not sure of the Black Edges thing in Creo. ProE has had an option to highlight
solid edges for some time now (at least back to WF4 when I started using
it).

View>Display Settings>Model Display> Shade Tab and use check box "With edges"

This gives a brighter color to hard edges of a shaded model. I use it
most of the time as I find it helps my old eyes. It does not highlight
tangent edges. I looked for it when I was having a discussion with a
friend who had used both ProE and SolidWorks.

Regards, Brent
