Creating Revision: Intralink Vs Windchill

Since I have limitted knowlege in IntraLink, I would like to know the following.

In IntraLink:
Can the Locked objects be Revised.
-ie. Lock Revision A.
-Modify the models in Pro/E and Save in the Workspace
-Create a new Revision B from the Locked and modified models "leaving Revision A" unaltered .

In Windchill:
How are the above steps realized.
Because Windchill doesnt have lock functionality. It will prompt first to Check-out and then allows to modify. Checked-out components cannot be Revised.

So, should the practice be always first Revise and do the modification.
What is the possibility of first making a modification and then doing a Revision.

Arun

Hi Nura !!

That's depending on version of PDMLink, and also how the system is set up !.

In general:

In PDMLink7 normally you have tied a workflow process to your objects in PDMLink, and after you are finished you will send the drawing for rev

Hi Pajo..
Thanks for the answer. Managing Lifecycles and specifying no access for Released parts is causing nightmare in Windchill. Windchill prompts to check-out so many released components although there is no change in the geometry. (reasons like regeneration of relations, refreshing the copy geom features,etc...). Imagine assembly with few 1000 components. PTC promises for a solution in WF3. Lets c....

Hi Nura !!

And truly in WF3 there is a huge improvement..
PTC have added the funtionality to "Lock" parts which will make them "Read Only" which is working great..
- When you are promted to check-out you will in WF3 have the option to do this, and it is a big improvement. That's was one of the reasons why we upgraded from PDMLink7 to 8 and from WF2 to 3.

Pajo
