Creating movable door in assembly

I'm currently modelling a Beech 18 and have been trying to figure out an easy way to cut out the section for the door in the fuselage and replace it with a part that matches the cutout surface. However, the only way I've found to do it and make it movable, is to create a sketch in a new part, pad it out to the surface, shell it out and remove the unwanted surfaces, then go back to the fuselage and cut out the hole for the door. Then I have to create a new part from the door so that it is not inherently dependent on the fuselage, thus allowing me to put hinges on the door and allow it to swing in and out. This method seems very time consuming and sort of redundant in a way. Is there an easier way to do this?
