To get the most robust model, you really need to remodel it from scratch.
Create yourself a detailed drawing of your IGES to get the needed dimensions, taking into consideration the design intent of course. Then create an assembly containing the original IGES part and your newly modeled part layed over the top of the old. This will allow you to check for consistency between the two.
