circular spring

I need to model a spring but instead of axis of revolution for the helical path I want a circle. I mean helix about a circle.

Please help.

Thanks in advance

Check the attached file - it's a circular spring, using a VSS Surface as the path for the protrusion...

Thanks proed,

I haven't done work in surfaces. Can you please help me understand the vss surface step in this part generation.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks proed,

Can you please elaborate the 2nd step, vss surface generation.

I am just a beginner in surfacing.

Thanks in advance.

The VSS uses a varying cross-section to create the helix.

I added a line with a fixed length & varying angle.

A new relation controls the angle of the line, eg:

sd5 = 360 * 10 * trajpar

where sd5 is the code for the dimension, 10 is the no. of turns & trajpar is the code for Trajectory Parameter. This varies from 0 to 1 along the length of the sweep.

So - the angle goes from 0 deg to 3600 degrees with a continual twist...
