Can AAX be made floating?

Hi,

I was wondering if AAX can be made floating? Also is there a list of modules which can/cannot be made floating?

Also, has anybody got an idea of the price to make a module floating? e.g. float ISDX, AAX, ARX?

Thanks,

James

It is my understanding that ALL modules are now floating. If you can see the same license server from all machines, you should be able to access those licenses from all machines. In some cases, you may have to use a different start up (e.g. we have one startup for ProE basic and one for ProE with the Mechanism Design extension.) This is done fairly easily be re-running PTC setup and selecting which licenses to grab based on the configuration chosen.

If by floating you mean that you can grab a license regardless of which ProE configuration you select to start, you may be out of luck in some cases.

Hope this helps.

I can add. A extension like AAX must be load together with start of ProE. A option like MDO can be grab and released on the fly without you have to restart ProE

If you want to do top down design, have part designs that copy heavily from others, or do a lot of large assemblies, AAX is useful.

We get along okay without it. There have been a few instances where I wanted to use a piece of functionality only available inAAX (e.g. inheritance feature), but I have always found other workarounds. If we would decide to get AAX, we would only get one license to share around the department.

I doubt that you need a license for every seat of ProE you have; however, keep in mind the need to restart ProE if you want to share a license or two around the company. The question is how often you would have to start a new session of ProE vs. how much cost of the additional license/maintenance.
