I,d start witha 360 degrotatedextrusion with the "shaft" and "lobes" at the correct dia and placement. Then I,d extrude (cut) away the unwanted surfaces. That would be easest for me anyway.
I am not an automobile engineer... However I would assume that the cams are used to close and open the valves of an engine. It would also be dependent on time. i.e in time t of total time T, how much the valve has opened.
