Assembly Drawing Balloons

I have an assembly that contains a few sub assemblies.
I created a BOM and 25 items show, each subassembly shows as one item, this is as intended.
When I created BOM balloons using Auto Balloon each items including items in sub assemblies receives a balloon.

Is there a way to prevent this?

I want the Balloons to match the BOM item numbers.

I have tried to recreate you problem and I can not do it. The auto balloon only attaches balloons to the items in the BOM. Are you using a Solidworks BOM or an excel based BOM?
