4k monitors

Anyone hear about a new monitor format for 4000 ultra high resolution? We have been using Bunkspeed at Design engine for the past month and watching the online web-a-sods and they are talking about 4k as if thats coming out soon.

Maybe I heard it wrong.

4000 what? Surely not pixels. Vertical lines? I know the Japanese TV industry has been working on 16X HDTV for several years, quadrupling both horizontal & vertical resolution. That gets you 4,320 vertical lines. But that would be wasted on anything smaller than a 60" display. Not coming to my desktop anytime soon.
