Thanks for the reply. I am using Windchill and iam trying
to import a non standard file not listed on the import
option. A plot file (*.plt). How do i do it. This was the
option that someone had suggested but i could not find it
in WF4.

Checkingproesite.com I found the option listedin the comparison section. You need to specify what you want shown in the list in your case just type plt. Additional extensions can be added by separating them with a comma.
How are you searching for the option? Are you just looking at the option list orare you typing the option in the dialog or using the Find dialog? It is available in WF4 but I'm using M200. I'll see if I can try M050. I'm also not sure whether there are installation options that would affect whether or not you would see the option.
I searched for it as *import*, it did not show up and also
i typed it in as allow_import_file_extension and value to
plt, the "Add/Change" Button or "OK" button do not seem to
become active.
Let me know what iam doing wrong
