I use Pro/Engineer Wildfire 4.0 with a Dell T5400. I have a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 and when I work with drawings of great assemblies (this drawings have very much crossection views), the computer is very slow.
Quadro FX1700 is not a very powerful gfx card. by the sounds of it your assembly are quite intensive stuff. I had a fx1700 in my old ferrari laptop, it was useless until I managed to get 4GB ram added... that helped.
