i was playing around and zoomed out as far as it would let me i drew a line and dimensioned it

so if i wanted model the solar system and dimension it i would be screwed

All CAD systems have a limit as to how large a 'part' you can model. My quess is that you could define the units of Pro/E to be miles and then you get 2,819,648 miles. Don't know if there is a larger 'unit of measure' that could be defined.
