Part Merge in Module ?- Advanced SE/XE?

andrewc

New member
I have an old Wildfire 1 licence called APX -

Before I go talking to PTC ( I wanted some info first from you fine
people!) I wanted to know what package I must now buy which contains
Part merge?

My Questions is about insert > shared data > merge xxxx :-

1) Was Part "Insert an external merge" in the Foundation Wildfire3 licence?

2) Was Part "Insert an external merge" in

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire3 Advanced SE OR XE?

3) Bottom line is he needs to redefine merge features in Wildfire3 ? WHAT DOES HE NEED ?

Appreciate the help Guys, as I need to pass on my merged models to new
PTC customer who only has Wildfire 3 Foundation at the moment. And I
have Widfire1 APX licence.

Merge is only available in the advanced assembly addin. I think that I have read on these forums that PTC made a mistake when they initially packaged Wildfire, and inadvertently added some of the AAX functionality to the basic package.

Downside is, without buying the advanced assembly license, he will not be able to do anything with it.

Robert,

A big thank You for confirming that the Wildfire Foundation licence did
not contain this merge function. I will now ask PTC which option (
Advanced SE OR XE ) I need to purchase - I think it will be Advanced SE.

Do you use the merge function ?

By the way I am using it to create a line of sequential parts with
further machining features added in further operations (after casting
part and hardening). This means I need more parameteres at each
sequential operation.

I did try and do this with Assembly cuts but I do not like Assembly
cuts which fail very quickly. When we scale things ( not by factors
like 1/4 or 1/10 but by specific awkward numerical values) we
find the Assy cut relationships need redefining every time.

Cheers..

Andrew,
if you assemble your part and an empty part into a dummy assembly, #insert #component operations #merge should work (WF3M110)

edit
its under edit:
# edit #component operations # merge

"Try # edit #component operations # merge"

Not sure about this when using Foundation Wildfire3 licence. I have
just had one try (actually on WF3M110) with the foundation licence and
had the menu greyed out - unavailable option.

Will try Again later.

PS ReinhardN is your licence AAX or foundation?

Andrew,
- create your dummy assembly
- assemble your part1
- assemble an empty part2 (with datums, no geometry)
then
#edit
#component operations
#merge
-select your merge parts, the empty one first
-ok
then your part(s)
ok
-reference or copy
-with or without datums
-done
-done
then open your part2
open part 1 and modify it
regen part 2 to see whether the modification is transferred
this should work as my license is foundation.
I think you can then delete your dummy assembly, but better test it.

Thanks for the Merge Advice - It was a while since I did this and forgot technique - Cheers

- I now need to talk to PTC about the benefit of
getting Advanced SE licence

(which I now need, and will search on this website
for Windchill PDMLink limitations within this licence).
