layering

I have brought in a BMP and intent on "marking it up" by drawing some splines, lines, entities on top of it... after I "draw" my items go behind the object... how do i make my draft entities stay ontop of my object??

Yeah that's a good question. Just a thought have you tried to create a "markup" using your drawing. New / markup / and select your drawing.Maybe this way will work.

I just tried...it does keep the "curve" ontop but i couldn't modify it as easily as a spline...also the nice thing in drawing mode is the cross hairs that help me line up my points...
