Healing Imported Geometry

I don't understand how to use the heal functions in WF 4.0 since they are a bit different that what remember of WF 2.0 that I used in the past. I remember using zip gaps and other features that attempted to heal imported surfaces with a bit of automation. Does anyone know of any good instructions on best methods to heal imported surfaces to create a solid in WF 4.o?
