Geomagic & Pointclouds

Hello everyone!

I usually work with Cyclone, but for mycurrent assignment I have to import the registered pointcloud of a huge tank into Geomagic studio 9. This I have already done, I have imported it as a .txt file and then cleaned it applying outliers/noise, etc.

Now I need tocreate sections throughout its height every 10cm with a line/polyline that represents tha shape of the tank's circumference. And I have no clue how to do this!!!!! Any idea?

Thanks in advance!http://www.mcadcentral.com/proe/forum/activate.asp?ID=rosamparo48DZC7855D

There are a few ways to cut sections in Geomagic Studio. Studio 9 is pretty old
but thinking that far back you would use a curves by section tool. That command
lets you section the polygon model and create curves. I recommend checking the
help in version 9 for the exact usage of the command.

Before you section make sure to align the tank to the world coordinate system
and create a polygon object out of the point cloud (use the wrap command). This
way your sections can be parallel to a system plane (this makes it easier). Then
pick a starting section where you need. After that, you can use the multiple
sections tool to create sections at whatever offset you need.

Studio 2012 is the current version so I can get you some screen shots of how to
do it in that version but I don't have version 9 anymore. The nice thing about
2012 is when you cut those sections you can create them as splines or line/arc
sketches. If you do the line/arc sketch, you can also make edits to the sketch
too.

Thank you so much! Geomagic is very useful indeed! I know i am working with a really old version, but i have to cope with it at least for this project.

I divided the tank into many contour lines using polygon> curves by section. But i found that these curves are not continuous as sometimes there was a small gap on the pointcloud or something similar.

I read somewhere that I have to check the continuity of these section lines in order tobe able later tocreate points on them every 10cm so that my end result is a grid of 10x10cm.

- How can can I check now the continuity of these lines?

- Which tool can i use to create points every 10cm on these lines?

Thanks again, you have been of enormous help.

You'll have gaps in your curves if you have holes in your
polygon model. You'll need to go and fill those first and
then cut the sections afterwards.

Once you've done that there's a points along curve command
you can run to put points on the curve.
