Flexnet licensing error (-97)

Hi,

WF3 on HP laptop running XP SP2

I have searched this forum and other sites to find a solution but have had no success. I have ensured that the NIC is first in the registry and that media sensing has been disabled.

Prior to receiving this error I had some parts and assemblies in session that are saved to an external HDD. One morning, I was switching the external drive between my laptop and another one to retrieve some unrelated files. At the end of the day, I hibernated my laptop which I do all of the time. The next morning I reconnected my external HDD and proceeded to unhibernate my laptop. I got a message asking if I wanted to format "drive H" which is my external HDD. During the process of trying to figure out what went wrong with it I completely shut down my computer not before saving the files that were in session to the local drive. Upon reboot, I started pro and thats when I received the licensing error. I have checked the ptclmgrd.log and it states the "wrong hostid on SERVER for license file which is an alpha numeric ID that does not match my NIC ID. Not sure what to do I Is this a matter of reinstalling license pack? I installed WF3 six years ago and with the help of PTC rep installed the license pack - I don't recall how to do it now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jnoval,

Thanks for the reply. I'm located in California. My license is floating
and no I don't have PTC support. I spoke with the distributor who I
purchased the seat from and he can't understand why the license pack has
a different host id compared to that of my network card which is the
same as what is listed in my setup disc. He said if I called PTC and
told them that I was switching computers than it would be a good chance
that they would send a new license pack. But before I do this I'm going
to exhaust all avenues to figure out what happened. I have not done
anything to my system, like change network cards, or mess with license
file. One thing I have thought about doing was going into the setup
disc to see if there something in there that I can do.

One of the things I noticed was that in the lmtools the ethernet address
listed both my wireless card ID and my network card ID - I don't know
if this is normal

Thanks

Try to disable the wireless interface (or all that are not the hostid listed in the license file). Once licenses are available, you can re-enable the wireless interface.

SOLVED!!!! During the course of trying to solve this issue, I tried
many solutions from various forums etc, one of which was changing the
registry entry for the order of the network cards and wireless cards.
In most cases there is the wired (fixed) network card and the wireless
card and the network adapter 1394. My assumption was that the fixed
network card was the one that the license file referred to. Turns out
it is not, it is the network adapter 1394 - as soon as I renamed it to 1
it worked. YES!!!!
