cross section one part

Create your cross-section as normal, then when in the drawing, double-click on the hatching and keep switching the sections and exclude component. As soon as your done, update the drawing and you should be good.

Hope this helps.

How would this be done from within the assembly file? For instance, creating a section view but excluding selective components from being sectioned, but still included in the display.

Thanks

You can edit which parts in the assembly are sectioned by redefining the Xsec. In the assembly the parts will still appearcut. When you create a new view in the drawing and apply the Xsec any parts you excluded from hatching will appear that way in the view. The thing to remeber is that once you create the view in the drawing if you try to exclude or include a part from the section while working in the assembly it will not update automatically in the drawing. You will need to edit the Xsec as ehorton described above.

If you want to show some partscut and some parts uncut in the assembly, one way I found to do this is create a work region at the part level using simplified reps in the parts you want to show as cut. Then create a simplified rep in the assembly. Under the view Manager select the representation and click the properties button. You should see the assembly in the list. Select a part and select the "Activate a simplifed rep from the selected component" to select the representation you want to show. Reset the assembly to master rep.

You can create a xsec of one part in an assembly as long as you use an assembly datum to define the section.

create a new section in the view manager
name section
select one part in the xsec opts menu
select the part you want sectioned
select or create the assy datum you want to reference

Only the selected part will be sectioned under that section name.

Hope this helps.
