Hi guys,

does anyone know how to make this part solid? i tried creating a surface and joining them, but didn't work...i tried using heal geometry but i'm not an expert at that so i didn't get it to become solid..Here is the file for those that wants to try....THANKS

I solve problems like I'm working on a car. Check spark, does it have gas? In this case your model has a small pink spot. Think of it as not holding water. You have a leak in your downloaded import geometry and you need to patch the leak to get it to solidify.

If you don't see the pink surfaces right away... you can cut the surface import in half by extruding a surface down 1/4 of the entire part.... You then merge up one half or the other.... then try to solidify one or the other. If your solid works then you know your problem is on the other side. Slide your new surface parametrically until you narrow down your hole (pink colored edges of surfaces) in the geometry.

Now solving the problem is another problem. Once you find the problem I'll help you solve it.

If you don't understand this 'merge' or 'extrude surface' then you might consider asking someone near you who knows surfaces or take a class.

Buddy o' mine at Joe's & Moe's Auto Repair clued me in on
using the Search Tool to find One Sided Edges. It's pretty
handy.

Normally, I won't respond to a post when the originator isn't
thoughtful enough to state which version of Pro/E an upload
is coming out of. I'll make an exception this time, though,
if the surfaces bounding the problem area are exported in a
neutral format so I can read them in my antiquated old WF2.

Alvin,

To find your "leak" go to view>display settings>system colors>scheme>use Pre-Wildfire scheme.

This will make the model stand against a blue background. Click "no hidden". now you have bright purple lines.

The problem area is yellow. When you zoom in to the donut shaped bosses around the holes you can find the leaks.

sorry about forgettin the version number... i'm using WF3..

anyone ever managed to make this part solid???
I've 'managed to reduce the number of bad surfaces, but still couldn't make my part solid...

thanks

Are you working with imported geometry?
Can you post the source (iges, step, etc.) file?

Native surfaces? Can you post an export?

Manual zipping for the most part. Deleted the trim boundaries where
all the pins intersect the odd colored surface (Standard mode Copy,
Fill holes), re-trimmed the pin intersections, Collapsed into the
Import Feature and zipped them up. Cleaned up a couple of edges with
needless vertices (Edit Bndry, Merge) before zipping .... about it.

that sounds like u did them all in heal geometry....

thanks for the help...

> did them all in heal geometry

Uh huh, with the exception of Copying the (different color) surface.
That could have been repaired on the Import feature by deleting the
individual trim boundaries but seemed like it would be quicker to do
in Standard mode and swap it out.

If you weren't just trying to do an auto heal and want to post a pic
or two showing where you had problems I'll try to explain how it was
dealt with.
