Assembly pattern

Hello, i am trying to make a chain (like from a bike). In assembly, i made one piece of it and now i'm trying to pattern it so all the pieces will form a chain. The problem is, when i pattern it, all the pieces are exactly the same as the first piece, so when i move the first piece all the patterned pieces move the same. So when i mate the first piece with the second piece, the chain is just a straight line and unable to bend.

I tried to solve this by clicking dissolve, but then the patterned pieces lose all the mates within themself and fall apart. How can i let the patterned pieces move independently, but still keep the mates.
