Wilfire 3 on Vista (64bits)

hello,

currently I'm proceeding to some testswith WF3 (M130 64 bits)on Vista (64bits).

Even if openning and regeneration times are better than on XP (the test computer is better also), the system looks quite unstable on sometimes exits prematurely.

The worst is when installing Service Pack 1, Pro/E cannot run. So I had to remove SP1 to Pro/E run again.

Have someone already meet same troubles ?

We are looking at getting new workstations possibly with Vista (64 bits) and I have seen a mixture of forums on this. Has anyone had consistentsuccess with this setup? Also, what would you say is a good amount of memory for one of these stand alone machines? We're looking at 4 MB of Processor memory, 4 GB of RAMand a 512 MB Nividia Quatro graphics card.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This forum software is quite active. It even made me the present of an additional blank in "vista". If you remove it, the URL is ok.

We are running a couple of 64 bit Vista machines here with WF3 M110 for XP64

The machines are HP XW4400 Workstations with 4GB of memory and Nvidia Quadro FX4600 graphics cards (lots of memory on these cards).

We have had no particular problems and performance is very good - have not loaded SP1 as this will require a new cut of Wildfire - I understand this will be available in June.

PTC certifies Wildfire compliant with VISTA 64 since WF3 M150 and WF4 M020.

As we are making lot of tests on VISTA 64, can share some results :

WF3 M150 :
On DELL precision 390 8Gb RAM and quadro fx4600 :
With small and average assemblies, it works pretty well ! Can say that performances are better (regenerate speed and spinning display for exemple).
With large assemblies (close to 7Gb) we have to remove our config.pro files to allows the assembly to be open, if not, WF3 exits... we have not yet found the option that is in cause. However, if the assembly is successfully opened, WF3 is very unstable and can exits for any reasons !

On DELL T3400 Quad core 8Gb RAM and quadro FX4600 :
Same behavior.

On DELL T5400 Xeon 8Gb RAM and quadro FX5600 (1.5Gb):
Same behavior.

On DELL laptop M4300 4Gb RAM
Same behavior.

About VISTA SP1 : As previously said in this topic, WF3 is no more running after SP1 installation on certain machine but for some others, still running... No reason found for that !

About WF4 M020 :
same behavior on those configurations, but performances have been really improved in this version ! Graphic engine hasprobably been reworked !! Amazing performances while spinning heavyassemblies. Time to open big assemblies is better too !

PTC tech support seems to be a bit confused about the "approximate" VISTA certification, there is a lot of uncoherences in the PTC documentations on the subject ! They told me to wait a bit, next datecaodes should be better...

At the end we decided to move to VISTA 64 later and to stay in XP64...

I'm running WF3 32 bits at home on VISTA 32 for some small size studies and it works great !

hope this could help you.

What about IntraLink? If yes, which version & which build? PTC just confirmed no support for IntraLink 3.X on Vista

Pro/intralink is no officially supportedon VISTA and shouln't be as PTC has originally announced the 3.x end of life (life time has been extended).

From our tests, INTRALINK 3.4 M040 is running very well on VISTA and VISTA 64.
We are managing very large workspaces without any trouble (3000 to 6000 objects). INTRALINK 34 is working on 64 bits microsoft OS since date code M030.

As Intralink Client is a JAVA graphic interface using old librairies, at launch, VISTA AERO will be switched off (no impact on 3D performances).

That's very sad that WF3 is not yet stable enough to work with VISTA 64 !
