WF2 Tryout license / host trouble

Zestje

New member
Hello,

I have installed WF2 tryout on Windows XP SP2 but my license doesn't work. Using the forum search I found out that the host IDshown in the setup screenand thus also in the licenseI got is not my actual host ID. In fact I can't find this host ID anywhere on my system!

I only have an on-board Network card (ASUS A8N SLI NF4 Mainboard with nVidia ethernet on-board) which has a MAC address (= host ID) of 00-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. ProE setup and the license show62-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx for the HostID.

I checked the registry for installed networkcards (HKLM/local machine/software/microsoft/windows NT/networkcards) but it only has 1 entry, which is for my 1394 firewire connection. So in the registry it seems as if I don't have any ethernet card installed at all! ( http://www.mcadcentral.com/proe/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=25 076)

So how do I get ProE te see the correct host ID during install and for the license?

One more important thing: I'm behind a seperate broadband modem and router. I also checked these from my computer and they bothalso have a different MAC address than 62-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. So where on earth does ProE get the 62-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx host ID from?

may be this 62-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx host ID is for the microsoft loopback adopter.

I can help you if you send me your hos ID.

Israr

I don't have a loopback adapter installed on my system, but I did find out that if I manually set the MAC address of my network adapter to 62-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx in it's properties (configure it in device manager, then go to properties, advanced and then choose 'network address') ProE will start.

This however causes my router settingsand firewall rules to be "wrong", because I use e.g. mac filtering and several other network rules on my lan. So this is only a workaround, because I have to change the address back every time I have used ProE...

So what can you dowith my Host ID to help? I don't know if it's safe to post the whole address here, so if you can help I can send you a PM with my Host ID?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Did you get get my PM Israr? I'm just asking to be sure, since I don't know if have visited these forums in the last days.

you can run cmd, then input "ipconfig/all",enter,you may find the Physical Address..........:00-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX, that is your hostID.

@pronto_1: No it is not an illegal version, I got the "Tryout Edition" CD from the company who gave me a ProE course at work. It is a real printed CD with a limited time license. The CAD data created with this one is not compatible with the normal version , just like with the student version.

@goldshine: ipconfig /all only gives me the 00-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx addres of my physical network card, which ProE doesn't find.

Dear Jestje.

I checked the registry for installed networkcards (HKLM/local machine/software/microsoft/windows NT/networkcards) but it only has 1 entry, which is for my 1394 firewire connection. So in the registry it seems as if I don't have any ethernet card installed at all!

DISABLE 1394 ADAPTER & THEN TRY AGAIN ...

BEST LUCK

Hello again. I managed to "solve" the problem withou having to manually set the MAC address of my network adapter.

As I wrote before, in my registry at the installed networkcards (HKLM/local
machine/software/microsoft/windows NT/networkcards) it only has 1
entry, which is for my 1394 firewire connection. So in the registry it
seems as if I don't have any network card installed at all!

So I installed a loopback adapter and then used the renumbering
solution (from my first post in this thread) and rebooted. Then for
some weird reason The installation suddenly did find the MAC addres of
my real network card (the one which doesn't show up in the registry!).
This is still working after deleting the loopback adapter again....
weird

So by adding another card I could change the order in the registry.

What I don't know is if this adding and renumbering solved the problem
of if maybe Windows does use a number for my real networkcard
internally and I just happened to choose a number for the firewire
connection which is higher then the one Windows uses internally? So
people with the same problem might also want to try just to give the
entries that don't belong to network cards a higher number (e.g. >5
or >25) to see if that works.

Hi,

If i am not mistaken, the tryout edition is actually a time limited version of pro-e. I believe it is valid for only 60 days and only has CAD tools (limited).
