Starting model for drawing

I am looking for help on how to control what rep of a model gets loaded when I start a drawing using a template. When I go to start a new drawing I select the boxthat says (use template), when I have to choose a model for the drawing I don't get an option to choose a rep. I have a large model that was created with simplified reps and I think the drawing template is trying to open the master of the model to start the drawing. Any help would be appreciated.

instead of picking template select empty, this will then give you the selection of what rep to use. Then replace the format with a company template.
