Solidworks w/ PDMLink

gggggggggg

New member
Does anyone here use the PTC/Windchill PDM product called "PDMLink" with Solidworks?

Currently, the company I work for uses Pro/Engineer & PDMLink. We
have a subsidiary company that currently uses Solidworks, but does not
currently have a PDM software.

We are trying to push them to use PDMLink, as we already own & use it.

Does anyone have experience using Solidworks and PDMLink??

Thanks for any thoughts.

Note: I have also posted this topic in the Solidworks forum.

We have used SolidWorks 2006 with PDMLink 8.0 for a couple years. The GUI is a bit bad with lots of windows on top of each other. Still it works ok when you are working on parts and drawings.
The major drawback is that you don't have all the information and after checking in the parts you will have to continue your work in a web browser.

The unified workgroup manager in PDMLink 9.0 is a giant step forward and it's basically the same as working with ProE, the only big difference is that your workspace is in a separate window. You can now do Check out on the fly and have commands as Upload and Check in available from the File menu in SolidWorks. So far this has been running smoothly but we just upgraded a couple of weeks ago. We did however tested it for several weeks before upgrading. We use SW 2008 with PDMLink 9.0.

To be honest, SolidWorks users are used to a good GUI and if you push them to use the workgroup manager for PDMLink 8.0 they will be very dissappointed but if you are on PDMLink 9.0 it should not be a problem.
