server backup

Good morning

Is there an alternative way to backup the server other than tape. We backup on tape and save the tapes for 2 week before over writing them. The tapes last about a year. We backup about 43GB per night this takes about 3 hours. I'm just looking for ways other companies back up there files.

Thanks

Steve

I backup to a seperate machine on the network. I then take and copy the backup files to an external drive and take it home. The whole backup takes about 2.5 hours for 68gigs. The real benefit besides the cost savings is the speed at which you can restore data.

You can also add a network hard drive appliance and backup to that, I think though to be safe you should be taking backups offsite and not keep them onsite every so often.
We have a pretty wicked system for backup, does like 230 GB per hour, the system was mega bucks.
HP has some newer systems that should to what you have in like 1 1/2 hours, and they are not that costly.
Ideally daily backups should be done incrementaly, this would greatly cut your time, than weeklys should be done and taken offsite. We do monthly and yearly that get archived.
Look at the software that you use with the drive, makes a difference as well.
